Accomodation

The conference is located at Hotel Fort Canning. A historical hotel on top of Fort Canning Hill in downtown Singapore. It is possible to stay at Hotel Fort Canning, and we recommend this as a good option for all conference guests.

The top of the hill has been converted entirely into a park, therefore it is best accessed by walking or by taxi. The walk up the hill can be 15-25 minutes depending on what road you choose to access the park from (and will be hot in the mornings). Alternatively taxis are cheap and plentiful in Singapore, and are a very common means of transport here.

This is an extremely central downtown location in Singapore, and thus numerous accommodation options are available around the base of Fort Canning Hill.  We have highlighted some of the options directly below.

Recommended:

Hotel For Canning: - At workshop site ~ 280 SGD/night

Hotel Fort Canning is the location where the workshop will take place. This is an excellent resort Hotel with the convenience of being central and yet also secluded in park lands. It is however, somewhat pricey.

Hotel Inonotel - 5 minutes walk ~ 160 - 180 SGD/night

Just 5 minutes walk to the conference venue, it is also currently showing the best hotel rate for the conference period and is provides great service to value ratio. The 3.5 star hotel also has the advantage of being 5 minutes walk from the Orchard Road - one of the primary tourist destinations in Singapore.

The YWCA  - 4 minutes walk ~ 110 SGD/night
This is a guest house directly opposite Hotel Fort Canning (literally as close as you can get to the venue). It is run by the Young Woman's Christian Association, and offers a convenient affordable option to each the conference.

Other Options:

Orchard Road precinct.
Orchard road is Singapore's main shopping street, and hosts a long stretch of malls located at the top left hand corner of the above map. This is an upmarket area of Singapore. We have highlighted 2-3 of the closest hotels.

Mandarin Orchard
Located at the top end of Orchard road. This is a very new hotel, which is in the center of the shopping quarter. It is on the red metro (subway) line, which links directly to City Hall and Dhoby Ghaut (the two  closest metro stations the conference venue. I have marked City Hall on the above map in red). However a taxi would be advisable in the mornings.

Holiday Inn Orchard
An older hotel at the end of Orchard road which is closer to the Conference venue. This hotel is in a less busy part of Orchard road. While this hotel is geographically close to the conference venue, the route you would need to walk is quite circuitous, so you will probably want to take a taxi. However if you decide to walk from this location we recommend you first go to Dhoby Ghaut subway station, and then afterwards see the getting here and venue tabs for directions.

Lloyd's Inn
A small bed and breakfast style hotel tucked in behind the orchard road area. This location is currently showing  the second best hotel rates -- but it has only a small number of rooms and books up quickly (so rates might rise if you book closer to the conference date).

City Hall precinct.
The conference venue is close to two Singaporean subway stations (called Dhoby Ghaut and City Hall respectively).  This district is directly on top of the City Hall station.

This is one of the older parts of town, and has in recent years seen considerable renovation work. It contains the parliament buildings for Singapore, and is flanked by marina bay and clarke quay (Singapore's spectacular bay area, and a night life spot respectively).

Fairmont Singapore
Directly on top of the City Hall metro station. This is a relatively large hotel, which probably has the best access to public transport out of all options presented on this page. It would be possible to walk from this hotel to the conference venue -- but please leave 30 minutes as you will need to climb the hill. Due to the heat a taxi would be a better option in the mornings.

Peninsular Excelsior and Grand Park City Hall
These are older hotels, they are across the road from each other. Both are located at the base of Fort Canning Hill. If you want to walk to the conference then please leave at least 20 minutes to climb the hill! Unfortunately renovation work in this part of the city has recently stated. The building next door to the Peninsular excelsior is scheduled for demolition, and the tripadvisor reviews indicate that it is noisy at the moment.

Marina Bay
While not captured on this map, the conference venue is geographically close to Singapore's Marina Bay. The Marina bay area hosts some of Singapore's most spectacular hotels such as the Fullerton Bay hotel (old customs house),  Marina Bay sands (a three building complex which supports a sky infinity pool constructed to resemble a giant ship), and the amoy hotel (a financial center hotel which is consistently rated extremely highly on tripadvisor). The draw back is this area is expensive, however if you want to experience Singapore this is the area which the city is best known for. It would be a relatively quick taxi ride away from the conference venue.

Clarke Quay
A near by nightlife hotspot. The area has well known hotels such as the Park Royal on Pickering hotel. Again a short taxi ride would allow you to access the conference venue.
