QuSCI Research Fellows in Quantum-Enhanced Learning, Agents and Intelligence.

The Quantum and Complexity Science Initiative is currently seeking up to four 5-year Research Fellows for a special focus project led by Mile Gu Quantum-Enhanced Agents - with a focus on the following big questions:

  • What are the fundamental resources behind complex adaptive behaviour? 
  • How do such limits differ depending on whether we use a class of quantum information processing?
  • Can quantum agents under resource constraints or energy perform better at various adaptive games?
  • How can we best train quantum agents using both classical or quantum techniques?
  • Can quantum agents learn from less data or be more expressive?

The project will involve interfacing ideas from  quantum information, quantum thermodynamics, statistical learning theory and complexity science - and as such welcome talented individuals in these fields keen on tackling these fundamental cross-disciplinary questions.

Remuneration:

  • For Research Fellows: After tax salary of 81,000 to 90,000 SGD  (~ 55k - 62k Euro) per annum
  • For Senior Research Fellows: After-tax salary of 90,000 to 100,000 SGD (~ 62k - 70k Euro) per annum.
  • Complementary health insurance and 2000 SGD relocation subsidy.

Requirements

The ideal candidate should possess a PhD and an excellent research track record. Senior Research Fellow candidates are expected to have 5 years of relevant prior postdoctoral experience and multiple high-profile publications. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds, but especially those with an interest and background in

  • Quantum Algorithms - Quantum Amplitude Amplification, Quantum Monte-Carlo methods, 
  • Temporal Quantum Information - Causal inference, quantum combs, non-Markovian processes, Temporal correlations, quantum systems under repeated measurement.
  • Classical and Quantum Machine Learning - Variational Circuits, Quantum Neural Networks, Statistical Learning Theory, Reinforcement Learning, Adaptive Agents
  • Quantum Resources and Thermodynamics  - Quantum resource theories, Information Batteries, 

In addition, all candidates should ideally possess:

  • Excellent written communication skills - able to write high-quality scientific manuscripts and grant proposals to completion and supervise PhD students in manuscript preparation at a PRL level.
  • Excellent oral communication skills - with a proven capacity to communicate technical ideas to interdisciplinary scientific audiences.

Appointments are initially for 1.5 to 2 years, with the potential for performance/experience-adjusted salary upgrades on renewal for up to 5 years.
